Our commitment to the planet and our community

The impacts of climate change are becoming ever more obvious, from record temperatures in the UK, to increasingly extreme weather events happening worldwide. We need to limit global temperature rise to within 1.5°C of preindustrial temperatures if we are to prevent further environmental damage. To achieve this, we need to drastically reduce the amount of carbon emission we release into the atmosphere.

The logistics and transport sector contributes close to one third of global CO₂ emissions and is on track to become one of the world's largest emitters if action is not taken. It is clear to us here at Cardinal Global Logistics that we have a critical role to play in achieving a decarbonised future and we are committed to being a force for good in the industry.

TThere are multiple ways we can achieve this, from working with our customers to find greener solutions, to investing directly in our local communities and increasing the awareness of our staff.

For our customers.

Having access to accurate data and transparent reporting is key to making meaningful emissions reductions. We supply our customers with high-quality, audit ready emissions reports for all their shipments, across all modes. To do this we use Lune, a leading carbon calculator which is accredited by the Smart Freight Centre and follows the GLEC Framework methodology.

Many of our customers have set ambitious net zero targets and having insight into their scope 3 transport emissions is key to identifying areas where reduction can be made. We are in the perfect position to pinpoint emissions hotspots and collaborate with our customers to enable meaningful climate action.

Sustainable solutions

Intermodal transport

Combing road and rail is a reliable option that results in huge emissions reductions while ensuring timely delivery. By utilising Europe’s rail network and using HVO fuelled road legs, your entire delivery can generate close to zero emissions.

Alternative fuels

Using HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) can result in emissions reductions of up to 90%. By working with our suppliers, we can ensure that certified, 100% renewable fuel is used to transport your goods, resulting in a huge drop in CO₂ emissions.

Carbon insetting

Enabling renewable fuel use within your supply chain, even if it’s not on your direct route is an increasingly popular way of decarbonising logistics. It’s one atmosphere, and choosing to purchase carbon insets results in direct positive impact. This concept can be applied to all road, ocean and air freight shipments.

Carbon offsetting

Another way in which our customers can take action to reduce their environmental impact is by purchasing carbon offsets from Cardinal Global Logistics. We offer tailored bundles to allow customers to directly contributing to carbon capture and sequestration projects, all of which have been externally verified.

Electric vehicles

Depending on the route, we can offer electric vehicles that emit zero emissions. As the UK EV network expands, these solutions will only become more cost effective and better integrated in everyday logistics to offer zero tailpipe emissions without compromising on performance.

Sustainable Advice

It can be incredibly difficult to navigate the increasing sustainability legislation, and we are keen to help our customers overcome any barriers they may have. Whether it is helping you to find more sustainable routes, or advice on the latest climate laws, Cardinals sustainability team are happy to help in any way. Even the smallest of changes can yield huge emissions savings, so get in touch today to see how we can help.

For our community.

Wythenshawe Park Project

We are extremely proud of the partnership we have with The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside and have recently funded a wetland regeneration project in a very important part of Wythenshawe Park. By reshaping channels, installing leaky dams and planting native flora, the stream and pond network that once flowed through this park will be restored.

Wild spaces aren’t as accessible in urban environments, and so creating a healthy wetland ecosystem in the local community will be invaluable in teaching local kids and families about the importance of protecting nature. This project will make the local area more resilient to flooding, boost biodiversity and ultimately shape the future landscape of where we operate in a positive way.

For our people.

Carbon Literacy Training

The people at Cardinal Global Logistics are the real reason for our success as a business. We are keen to invest in our staff in many ways and have teamed up with The Carbon Literacy Project who are a Manchester based charity dedicated to raising climate awareness.

We have built a bespoke training course for the logistics industry, which covers a variety of issues, from the greenhouse effect to sustainable road freight solutions. Having a carbon literate workforce is a great way to embed sustainability into our operations and catalyse action to reduce emissions in the workplace.

Caring beyond logistics

Making a difference together.

At Cardinal Global Logistics, we believe that being a successful business means being a responsible one. That responsibility extends beyond how we work with our clients — it’s about the positive impact we make on our people, our communities, and the world around us.

Our colleagues are passionate about giving back, and we actively encourage them to do so. Everyone is given one day each year to volunteer for a charity of their choice, supporting causes that inspire them personally. It’s one of the many ways we aim to make community involvement part of who we are, not just what we do.

As part of the Cardinal Partnership, we’re proud to have our own Charitable Trust, managed by an elected committee of colleagues. The Trust oversees our charitable giving and ensures that donations and support are directed where they can make the biggest difference.

Some of the organisations we’re proud to support include The Wellspring, a local charity helping homeless and disadvantaged people, and the Bambisanani Partnership, an international initiative uniting young people in the UK and South Africa through education, sport, and shared learning.

At Cardinal, we’re more than a logistics company – we’re a community of people who believe in doing good, together.
